After three years of a fig tree not producing any fruit, the owner relented and said to 'cut it down.' The guy in charge of the care of the tree said, 'wait a minute, why don't I dig around it and put some manure on it, and see what happens.Wait a minute. . . why didn't he do that after the first year? The second year? He knew what needed to be done, he just didn't do it.
how do you know he knew what to do?
ReplyDeleteand from another perspective: isn't that a metaphor for the human experience? We know what to do, but we cannot/will not/do not do it until other internal shifts occur.
For many or most or maybe even all, action requires a convergence of circumstance, both internal and external.
